The continental shelf project

The Continental Shelf Project is a co-operation between Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands. It identifies the submarine areas surrounding Greenland and the Faroe Islands that meet the requirements for an extension of the continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles. The project has acquired the documentation that is necessary in order to claim an extended continental shelf.

In order to submit this claim to the United Nations, the project collected scientific data in the relevant areas and interpreted them, and these efforts are described on this website. Here, you will find information about the results of the projects as well as information about the process surrounding the ratification of the United Nations Convention of the Law of the Sea and the relevant rules of the convention.
